L&C Council Hosts Business Event On Industrial Decarbonisation With Invest NI

Construction News Image
More than 35 businesses from Lisburn and Castlereagh attended the Council's recent workshop focused on industrial decarbonisation.

The workshop formed part of a wider project led by InvestNI called Industrial Decarbonisation for Northern Ireland (ID-NI). The ID-NI takes an innovative dual-approach to address carbon reduction in Northern Ireland providing businesses with support, advice, tools and metrics to enable them to increase productivity while reducing emissions.

The workshop provided businesses with insights into how the Innovate UK-funded industrial decarbonisation initiative can enhance their operations. Invest NI, through ID-NI, aims to establish four clusters to support businesses with efficiencies, investment opportunities and financial assistance.

Speaking at the event Ald Michelle Guy, Chair of our Regeneration and Growth Committee said: "The government has set out ambitious targets of achieving net zero carbon by 2050. This is uniquely challenging for all business sectors, from those operating large industrial processing sites to SMEs and agri-food businesses, who are the backbone of our council area. The event provided a unique opportunity to discuss and explore the potential benefits and challenges at a local and regional level and urge businesses to get involved."

Invest NI leads a consortium of stakeholders, including Manufacturing NI, Mineral Products Association, Ulster University, Queen's University and all 11 councils. Together, these partners will build upon the GB best practice decarbonisation project known as "Repowering the Black Country" through the Virtual Zero Carbon Hub initiative.
