GRAHAM Makes Progress On A164 & Jock's Lodge Scheme

Construction News Image
County Down headquartered, GRAHAM, has made significant progress in recent weeks with earthworks and utility works across the A164 & Jock's Lodge scheme.

Earthworks in the area between Skidby roundabout and Dunflat Road are set to resume soon, following the completion of essential pre-earthworks drainage. Currently, 11,000 cubic meters of topsoil have been stripped and stored. The next phase involves excavating, transporting and placing 26,500 cubic metres of class 2 soils in the designated area.

Additionally, successful diversion of the 400mm and 150mm Yorkshire Water mains over a 475-meter stretch between Dunflat Road and Coppleflat Lane has paved the way for earthworks to restart in July. These works aim to bring the new northbound carriageway up to the current level of the A164 carriageway.

Earthworks are ongoing from the A1079 south to the A164, with 80,000m3 being moved as part of the cut and fill operation. Three of the seven new attenuation ponds are nearing completion, the new ponds will store surface water and help prevent localised flooding in the future.

The landscape along the A1079 has transformed as construction progresses on the new A1079 roundabout. The southern section of the roundabout has reached the capping level, while drainage works are currently underway. The new Bentley Bridge continues to rise out of the ground, with concrete pours completed to form the bridge abutment foundations – reinforced concrete supports that will support the new bridge stems and deck. Work on the structures wingwall foundations continue with approximately 50-tonnes of reinforced steel work to be installed and 300m3 of concrete to be poured.

By late autumn, the construction of the structure will be finished. This project entails securing 193 tonnes of reinforcement and pouring 1500 cubic metres of structural concrete. This sturdy foundation is engineered to support the substantial 82-tonne beams that will bear the weight of the new northbound A164 carriageway.
