Gas Networks Ireland Appointed As SDG Champion

Construction News Image
Eamon Ryan TD, the Minister for the Environment, Climate, and Communications, has appointed Gas Networks Ireland as one of twenty new champions for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ireland.

As an SDG Champion, Gas Networks Ireland's employees recently volunteered to lead a community engagement drive in Drum, County Roscommon and Rochfortbridge, County Westmeath. These efforts, which coincide with planned operational and pipeline projects later this year in Drum and Rochfortbridge, underscore the company's dedication to sustainable development, focusing on SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

In County Roscommon, Gas Networks Ireland's employees delivered Junior Achievement Ireland's Energize programme, which aims to inspire students to continue with STEAM subjects at a post-primary level to 110 students at Summerhill National School (St. Joseph's) in Drum.

In Rochfortbridge, County Westmeath, Gas Networks Ireland collaborated with the local Tidy Towns committee. Employees of the national utility took part in a litter pick and also pinpointed 15 new locations to add to Rochfortbridge's updated wheelchair accessibility map.

Gráinne O'Reilly, Gas Networks Ireland's Social Sustainability Manager, said: "We are proud to be selected as a national SDG champion. Thank you, Drum and Rochfortbridge for welcoming us into your community and for your participation in our blitz. Our CSR programmes demonstrate how Gas Networks Ireland integrates sustainability and community initiatives with our operational work and provide a platform through which we promote awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals."
