Kildare Council Launches Plans To Transform Naas Quarter

Construction News Image
Kildare County Council has initiated a public survey as part of its ambitious Naas Canal Quarter regeneration project.

This masterplanning project seeks to transform a currently under-used area at the core of Naas, transforming it into a bustling local hub that draws new economic and community activities to the region.

The Naas Canal Quarter occupies a strategic location near the heart of Naas, bordered by Main Street to the west, Sarto Park to the east, Newbridge Road to the north and Abbey Road and Bridge to the south.

Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive, Kildare County Council, said: "We are committed to making the Naas Canal Quarter a thriving and vibrant hub that reflects the needs and aspirations of our community. This survey is a crucial step in ensuring that everyone's voice is heard in shaping the future of this exciting project.

"Collaboration is a key element of this project, and Kildare County Council is eager to gather insights from residents, workers, and visitors to Naas. To ensure a broad range of voices are heard, we are launching an online survey and we want you to take part and help us shape the future of Naas Canal Quarter."

Through this initiative, Kildare County Council plans to:

• Develop under-utilised sites and buildings

• Revitalise public spaces

• Improve pedestrian and cycling paths

• Create engaging new spaces

Supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage's Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, the scheme aims to attract new businesses, provide diverse recreational opportunities, spark investment, and celebrate the area's rich historical background.

Kildare County Council aims to attract investment and commercial activity by developing under-used sites and buildings, revitalising public spaces and improving pedestrian and cycling paths. This initiative will also celebrate the area's heritage through sensitive restoration of historic buildings and assets, ensuring a prosperous future while honouring the past.

Central to the project is the integration and enhancement of existing community and cultural assets, including the new Naas Library, the old Naas library building, the Moat Theatre and the health centre. These efforts are designed to strengthen the social and cultural fabric of the area.

The public is invited to complete this questionnaire to share your insights and help shape the future of the Naas Canal Quarter. The survey will close at 5pm on Friday 9 August 2024.
