Further Flushing Works To Begin In Cork City

Construction News Image
Uisce Éireann has announced that further flushing works are set to take place in Cork City to improve the water quality for homes and businesses.

The work, which begins on Saturday 29 June, is part of Uisce Éireann's dedicated Water Quality Taskforce that continues to address water discolouration issued for affected customers across the city.

This targeted flushing work is set to commence at 9am on Saturday morning and is expected to continue until 4pm. As works progress through the area, signage will be put in place.

Flushing will take place in the following areas:

• Melbourne Road, Woburn and surrounding areas

• Hollywood Estate, Millstream and Hollymount and surrounding areas

• Farranferris and surrounding areas

• Glenheights Park, Glenthorn and surrounding areas

• Copper Hill, Beaumount and surrounding areas

• Templeacre Avenue, Chapel Field, Upper Cathedral Road and surrounding areas

Water Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann, Sean Lynch said: "Our goal is to minimise the instances of discolouration for the people where reports of discolouration have been received. Areas are prioritised based on customer feedback and reports directly to our customer care team."

The programme involves isolating and flushing small sections of the water network to remove sediment build-up from the old cast iron pipes. By isolating the flushing area from the larger network, disruption is minimised and sediment removal is more effective. However, this process can cause sediment to reach customers' taps, leading to short-term instances of discoloured water.
