Cork County Council is urging the public to have their say on the emerging options for the Flood Relief Scheme for Bantry town and surrounding areas.
A series of flood mitigation options have been developed following extensive investigations.
A public participation day will take place at the Maritime Hotel, Bantry on May 30th between 4pm and 8pm. Cork County Council, Office of Public Works and the appointed Engineering Consultants, JB Barry and Partners, and JBA Consulting are encouraging people to attend.
The project team will give an overview of the emerging options and is inviting feedback, comments and observations on the options presented. The feedback from the event will be considered, with all other relevant assessment items, to identify the preferred scheme of flood mitigation measures.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O'Flynn said: "This public participation event marks a significant milestone in the development of Bantry Flood Relief Scheme. The scheme aims to provide flood protection to a community which is regularly impacted by major flood events. I would encourage members of the public to attend the event to put forward their thoughts and comments in relation to the range of solutions proposed.
"The event marks the second in a series of Public Participation Days which will be held over the course of the delivery the project, the first of which was held in May 2022 during the early stages of the scheme development. A final avenue for comment from the public for the development and design stage of the project will be available at a later date when the Preferred Option will be presented at a third Public Participation Day."
