Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's planning department has approved a new £50 million residential development on the Ballymaconaghy Road in Castlereagh.
The planning application was submitted by Banbridge based Lotus Homes and the Benmore Group, two of Northern Ireland's leading development and investment companies.
Within the development, 141 new residences will be built, including 81 detached homes, 44 semi-detached units, 2 bungalows and 14 apartments. This community will be built on land north of Ballymaconaghy Road, near the Four Winds district of the city. Each house will boast an EPC A Rating, accompanied by in-line solar panels and pre-installed wiring for electric vehicle charging points.
The housing plan includes excellent private facilities, verdant open areas, ample parking for both cars and bicycles, a dedicated children's playground, as well as landscaping. Furthermore, it involves improvements to local infrastructure, such as upgrades to the Four Winds roundabout, the addition of a right-hand turning lane leading into the new community and the installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing on Ballymaconaghy Road.
As part of the project 60 full time construction jobs will be created during construction with an estimated £50 million being invested in the local economy.
Alderman Martin Gregg, chair of the council’s planning committee, said: "We are delighted to have granted the approval needed to transform this site into new homes in the heart of the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area.
"These are exciting plans which the committee is delighted to support. There is high demand for high quality, affordable homes in this area and we are looking forward to the development meeting that growing need."
This significant development will offer housing for 141 families, contributing to the regeneration of the area and fostering a vibrant community. It addresses a local housing demand. Among these homes, 29 will be designated as affordable housing, offering a range of options for those seeking to settle in the vicinity.
The development underwent thorough consultation since 2022 prior to the approval of the planning application. Construction on the new project is set to commence soon.
