Cork County Council has launched a public consultation on Bandon Sections of the West Cork Greenway.
This section of Greenway would service the Crossbarry, Bandon, Clonakilty and Timoleague hinterlands.
This project is at Phase 1 Concept and Feasibility stage which includes the development of the study area, studying the constraints and opportunities within the study area to examine the feasibility of the project and optioneering of the proposed route. Funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland's (TII) Greenway Programme, the project's future development is subject to their support.
The public consultation is now open and submissions can be entered online through the project website.
There will also be two in-person public consultation events, one in Bandon on Tuesday the 21 May and another in Clonakilty on Wednesday 22 May.
This initial public consultation aims to offer insights into the project's details and to gather input regarding the Study Area, its constraints, opportunities and any other aspects crucial for the design team to factor in.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O'Flynn said: "Cork County Council welcomes the opportunity to meet with members of the community at the in-person events and is asking people to take the time to provide feedback through the online questionnaire. Community input is key to ensuring this greenway aligns with the needs of residents and businesses in the area. Our common goal is to develop a greenway that will provide a safe, sustainable, and healthy transport option for local communities. It would support a modal shift away from car use and also encourage visitors to come and explore the local heritage and scenic areas of West Cork."
The first public consultation will be online until Friday 14 June 2024.
