McLaughlin & Harvey have been assessed and awarded gold status by the Supply Chain Sustainability School for its commitment to their Plant Charter.
Signatories of this Charter, spanning the supply chain, pledge to decrease greenhouse gas emissions from the construction machinery and equipment they procure, rent and use.
The award stems from an audit conducted by Action Sustainability, assessing business practices and sustainability approaches over the previous 12 months, focusing on five key commitments. McLaughlin & Harvey achieved the highest score, earning the maximum award of 15/15 for each commitment.
The five commitments include metrics to measure the activity levels and impact under the following key headings:
•Minimum standards in procurement: McLaughlin & Harvey will buy or hire plant that meets or exceeds the standards for Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas emissions defined under the charter. The Charter sets the market potential for the next 5 years to encourage innovation and development
•Engagement: The company will continue to engage and support our supply chain to actively participate in meeting the same standards
•Awareness raising and education: McLaughlin & Harvey is committed to providing its supply chain with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to achieve its aims
•Measurement and reporting: The firm will continue to measure progress in reducing its emissions and report them to relevant stakeholders
•Innovation: McLaughlin & Harvey intends to investigate, trial and implement new technologies that will help the company and its supply chain on the route to zero emissions onsite
Carl Rushton, Head of Sustainability at McLaughlin & Harvey, said:
"This is a tremendous recognition of the commitment from our Boards, procurement and delivery teams to net zero. The audited activities over the past 12 months included personal engagement with over 200 staff members from our supply chain, 445 staff trained in CPD-accredited carbon reduction programmes and dedication from our procurement teams in only hiring and buying plant and equipment to satisfy or exceed the levels defined in the charter."
Becoming a Charter signatory is part of McLaughlin & Harvey's 2030 Net Zero Strategy which reinforces its commitment to go beyond current government legislation by focusing on:
•Reducing the company's environmental footprint with sustainable impact across all our civil engineering and construction projects
•Making a positive difference to its clients' projects and supporting the delivery of net zero in the local communities that the firm work in
