Ward & Burke Construction Ltd has completed works in County Clare which has resulted in an improved water supply for residents.
Uisce Éireann appointed Ward & Burke to replace more than three kilometres of old and damaged water mains with new, modern pipes in Ennis, Ennistymon and Creegh, driving down the amount of clean and treated water lost to leakage.
The completed works have taken place along Clon Road, Ennis (600m), Lifford Road, Ennis (250m), in Alva Creegh (1.3km) and most recently in Ennistymon (1km) to provide a safe and secure water supply for homes and businesses across the heartland of the county.
Following the completion of the Ennistymon project, Uisce Éireann, in collaboration with Clare County Council is currently carrying out reinstatement works on the permanent road surface. Continuing to support the growth of communities by developing critical infrastructure in Co. Clare, Uisce Éireann is also completing leakage reduction efforts in Ballinoosky (670m) with works currently ongoing.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann said: "Many of these old and damaged pipes were prone to bursts and high levels of leakage, causing supply challenges for homes and businesses. Replacing them with modern pipes reduces the amount of drinking water lost through leakage and brings an all-round improvement to the water network for Clare communities.
"Since being involved in the national Leakage Reduction Programme across Clare, I have seen first-hand how efforts to tackle leakage have benefited local communities. These projects have resulted in significant leakage savings providing a more resilient and robust supply of water for local communities."
