Significant Progress Made On Croom Water Project

Construction News Image
Significant progress has been made on a Uisce Éireann project in Croom that will improve the security and resilience of the drinking water supply for over 1,700 customers.

The project, which began in December, entails building a 6 kilometre rising main to link Croom with the Limerick City water supply at the Clareville Water Treatment Plant. This substantial infrastructure upgrade will support social and economic progress in the village of Limerick.

In recent months, almost 5 kilometres of modern watermains have already been constructed along the N20 and L1478 as part of the water supply rationalisation works.

The new pipeline represents an €8.6 million investment in improving water supply security and resilience for homes and businesses in Croom. The drinking water infrastructure in the area was not sufficient to meet current demand and the area has been prone to frequent night-time restrictions. In addition to creating supply challenges for existing customers, this has also impacted the delivery of new housing developments in the area.

Laura Heneghan, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, said: "When the project is complete, it will allow for additional social and economic growth in the area and ensure Croom will thrive now and into the future.

"We understand that the works may cause some disruption, and our crews are making every effort to minimise this and complete the project swiftly. Thank you to the communities and businesses impacted for their patience and cooperation."

Ward & Burke Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann and it is planned that Phase 1 works will be completed in mid-2024, with commissioning of the existing pipeline from the city to Attyfynn taking place towards the end of 2024.
