NMD Council Opens Applications For Business Flooding Scheme

Construction News Image
Newry, Mourne and Down (NMD) District Council has encouraged businesses and non-domestic premises to apply for a Flooding Hardship Scheme.

The scheme which is part of a package of funding from the Department for Economy (DfE) aims to support non-domestic properties affected by the flooding in October/November 2023 who were not eligible for the previous £7,500 payment or the Enhanced Flood Support Scheme.

During the application process, applicants will be presented with two options based on the extent of eligible costs already incurred or anticipated. Option One entails a £5,000 hardship payment designed for eligible SME businesses and other non-domestic occupants of premises affected by flooding, experiencing financial strain, and not qualifying for either the £7,500 scheme or the Enhanced Flood Support Scheme.

Option Two offers a £2,500 hardship payment intended for eligible SME businesses and other non-domestic occupants of premises that remained unflooded but were rendered inaccessible due to the flooding, consequently preventing them from conducting business operations.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Cllr Valerie Harte said: "Newry, Mourne and Down District Council welcomes the opening of the Flooding Hardship Scheme with Department for Economy funding. I encourage those who think they be eligible to visit the online portal and make an application for funding ahead of the 29 March deadline."

The Flooding Hardship Scheme closes on 29 March 2024 at 12.00pm.
