Engineers Ireland in partnership with Farrans have kickstarted a busy week of events in Northern Ireland for Engineers Week 2024.
School and learning hubs across Northern Ireland will be taking part in events from today (4 March) until 8 March. Engineers Week is a celebration of innovation, creativity, and the limitless possibilities of STEAM education.
Members of the Farrans' team will be on hand to support with exciting construction related events including the build of The Big Bridge, a 13m long and 3m high cable-stayed model bridge.
Pupils in Northern Ireland will have the opportunity to experience the challenges, the fun and the creativity that are all common to civil engineering sites. Farrans will introduce the children to the many varied roles that there are within construction to encourage young people to see the varied skill sets that go into bringing major projects to life. The Big Bridge workshops provide a safe and collaborative environment which encourage bright ideas and team work.
Jonny Kerr, Operations Director, Civils Division at Farrans Construction said:
"We are delighted to partner with Engineers Ireland as they roll out Engineers Week to Northern Ireland for the first time this year. As a business we invest in the future generation of our industry and the calendar of events, which includes The Big Bridge, Scientific Sue and workshops with inspirational companies like Lego, aligns with our aspiration to encourage more young people to consider a career in this industry. We look forward to working with all of the partners, schools and pupils involved to deliver a really impactful and exciting learning initiative."
