Uisce Éireann has appointed Ward & Burke Construction Ltd to replace over 500 metres of water mains in Abington, Murroe in County Limerick.
The works are being carried out due to the increasing frequency of supply interruptions in the Limerick village as a result of damaged water main infrastructure.
In order to facilitate the works, a road closure will be in place along the L1125 until 6.00 pm on 29 March.
These works, which are set to begin in the coming days, are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme. The section of works will take place along a segment of the L1125 and end at Abington Church. This significant project for the people of Murroe will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road, to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.
Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, Jack Cronin, said:
"Old and damaged water mains remain a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across County Limerick, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains in poor condition in Murroe will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. The delivery of these essential works will help provide a safer, more secure water supply for Murroe by minimising the frequency of bursts and improving the resilience of the network. We would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation during the works, we know based on previous experiences that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the lasting benefits."
The works are expected to be completed by May 2024.
