NI Water Supports Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary

Construction News Image
NI Water volunteers have supported Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary by spending a day helping the animals.

The day is part of NI Water's 'Cares Challenge' project which has been successfully operating for over ten years and is one of the largest corporate volunteering schemes in the province.

NI Water volunteer Adam Lorimer said: "Helping out at Crosskennan Animal Sanctuary was a very enjoyable and worthwhile experience, I am very much an animal person so this one was great to be involved in!"

So far, more than 1,700 staff members have volunteered in 120 challenges, totaling over 12,000 hours.

As an integral part of the program, activities are scheduled annually for different groups across Northern Ireland. These initiatives are established in collaboration with Business in the Community’s NI Cares Programme. This program identifies local organizations and charities in need of assistance with physical tasks like gardening and painting.

Rose Kelly, Director of People and Learning explained: "Our volunteers have undertaken everything from gardening, painting and maintenance to environmental and fundraising days. The extra assistance provided by our volunteers greatly enhances the facilities of the organisations we support, and improves the lives of their members.

"Volunteering has also proved to be a key part of our health and wellbeing toolkit. Our teams gain so much from the experience, not only by helping the community, but also having the chance to spend time with colleagues from around the business that they might not otherwise have a chance to meet."
