The first phase of Tuath Housing's new cost rental homes have officially opened at Kiltiernan Wood, Enniskerry Road.
In partnership with Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council, Tuath Housing has successfully completed the construction of 24 new cost rental residences in the first phase of the project. The overall development plan includes a total of 72 cost rental homes, featuring 63 two-bedroom apartments and 9 three-bedroom apartments.
The average rental cost for a two-bed home in the Kiltiernan area is currently €2,400 per month, rising to €3,200 per month for a three-bed. In contrast, the new A-rated, cost rental homes will be offered at significantly reduced rates, with rents set at €1,425 for a two-bed and €1,550 for a three-bed home.
The broader Kiltiernan Wood development is set to include a total of 203 residences, featuring a blend of privately owned, privately rented, social, and cost rental housing.
Apart from the cost rental units, Tuath has added another 22 social homes to the development. Additionally, through a Part V agreement, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council has contributed five social homes on the same site. Upon completion, these homes will be assigned to individuals from the Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council housing waiting list.
Councillor Denis O'Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council, said:
"I am delighted to announce the completion of the first phase of housing at Kiltiernan, a development that will provide much-needed homes for our citizens. Kiltiernan is a vibrant community, and I am sure that these modern, affordable homes will add further to the area. I would like to thank all elected members, and everyone involved for their hard-work and dedication as we continue to deliver safe and secure homes across the County."
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council, stated:
"We are proud to collaborate with Tuath on this housing project, which will provide 72 cost rental homes and 22 social homes in Kiltiernan. Cost rental offers a long-term, secure tenancy that is more affordable, and this joint effort will contribute to addressing the housing needs of the local community. We are committed to building new homes in line with our Housing Delivery Action Plan by providing a range of options that respond to the needs of our citizens as our priority."
Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage Darragh O'Brien commented:
"This is a fantastic example of a mixed development site and under Housing for All we are focused on there being many more such developments. Cost rental is taking hold across the country and in November alone I approved funding for 1,600 new cost rental homes. Partners like Tuath and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown are key to our expansion of cost rental and I really want to commend them for progressing this project."
Barry O'Leary, Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Finance Agency (HFA) said:
"The HFA is proud to have provided financing to Tuath for these cost rental homes in Kiltiernan and it’s great to be here for their official launch. I’d like to wish the new residents of Kiltiernan Wood every happiness in their new homes."
Prof. Paddy Gray, Chair of Tuath's Voluntary Board of Directors said:
"This initiative exemplifies our dedication to providing not just homes but opportunities for individuals and families to thrive. The commitment to affordability, in collaboration with the State, local authorities, statutory bodies, funder and developers, showcases the positive impact that can be achieved when public and private sectors unite for the greater good."
