McCusker Contracts Begins Work At New Drummee Waste Station

Construction News Image
McCusker Contracts Ltd has began works on a new waste transfer station at Drummee Recycling Centre and Landfill in Enniskillen.

The new facility will improve the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's waste and recycling infrastructure and strengthen resilience, enabling residual waste to be safely and securely stored until it is collected for waste treatment.

This new station is a key milestone in the planned closure of Drummee Landfill site later in 2024, contributing to Council's commitments to increase recycling rates and reduce carbon emissions across the District.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O'Reilly, said:

"The construction of the waste transfer station at Drummee represents a significant milestone for the Council in terms of its commitment to reduce waste and increase re-use and recycling.

"The Council is committed to managing waste in the most environmentally and economically sustainable way. This development will help to achieve this by increasing capacity to store waste before it is transported for residual waste treatment.

"This facility will also contribute to the Council’s commitment to close the operational landfill site at Drummee and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. In order to minimise adverse environmental effects from waste, the 'waste hierarchy' places waste disposal is at the very bottom in terms of the approach to the management of waste."
