Over 60 new homes have officially opened at Cornamona Court in Bellyfermot, Dublin.
Cornamona Court is a newly built housing scheme, owned and managed by Dublin City Council, located at Kylemore Road. The new development provides 61 homes, which are a mix of one, two and three bedroom homes. The home types include houses, duplexes and apartments. Residents began moving in following the completion of the homes in April 2023. The housing development is well located in an area of general housing with good proximity to schools, church, shops, library, sports and community buildings.
Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste said: "I am extremely proud, as the Lord Mayor and living in the area, to be here today officially launching these beautiful homes at Cornamona Court. Built to the highest standards, the new homes cater for various generations, including young families and older persons and I wish every single resident happy times in their new home."
Originally, a single-story older person's complex, the site location was identified by Dublin City Council in 2017 as part of the housing program. A new proposal was developed to address the housing needs in the area, incorporating both general housing and older person's homes.
Comprising three residential blocks, the buildings boast a simple rectangular geometry adorned with generous windows, screens, balconies, and access galleries. Two four to five-story blocks serve as the frontage to Kylemore Road, while a terrace of two-story homes overlooks a shared courtyard at the rear. The setback road frontage creates a spacious public realm streetscape, enhanced by the introduction of new trees along the road.
The two taller blocks accommodate older person's apartments set over duplexes at ground level with ‘own door’ access from the street, which provides beneficial active frontage as well as giving a sense of privacy. The duplexes and houses have private front and rear gardens. The development also has a resident’s community room, which can be accessed from the street and from the private courtyard, and sits over a basement car park.
This regeneration project has been funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Recently, at the National Age Friendly Awards, Cornamona Court was honoured with an Age-Friendly Housing Award. This accolade recognizes housing initiatives that promote independent living for older people. Cornamona Court houses 31 older person homes, all designed with Universal Design and Age-Friendly features to facilitate independent living.
