Kildare County Council Welcomes EPA Report

Kildare County Council has welcomed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Environmental Enforcement Performance Report for 2022.

The report shows that Kildare County Council achieved the required standard across all of the National Enforcement Priorities (NEPs).

This is the second report under the revised Local Authority Performance Framework, which aims to align performance scores to the delivery of environmental outcomes under the National Enforcement Priorities (NEPs) by targeting key environmental issues.

The NEPs covers air enforcement, waste enforcement, water enforcement and noise enforcement. Set criteria is used to assess local authorities including compliance rates, compliance promotion and awareness, enforcement actions and environmental outcomes. Each NEP is scored using a four point scale where local authorities demonstrate performance by the end of the three-year cycle, 2022 – 2024.

Kildare County Council scored excellent and strong across all of the national waste, water, air & noise enforcement categories as well as governance processes, and achieved the highest ranking across the following areas:

National Waste Priorities:

• Construction & Demolition Waste

• ELVs & Metals

National Water Priorities:

• Local Priorities & Water Quality Monitoring

National Air & Noise Priorities:

• Solid Fuel

• Air & Noise Controls (including planning)

• Ongoing Air & Noise Enforcement Work

• Review & Reporting
