Dublin is to welcome more than 1,000 delegates from all over the world to Ireland's first ever Wind Energy Trade Show today, 11 October.
The show is taking place at the Sports Ireland Campus in Dublin and will bring together Ireland's growing domestic supply chain and key players in the global wind energy industry. Whilst showcasing Irish and international research.
Wind Energy Ireland is to launch a new online platform during the show that is designed to encourage students and young people to pursue a career in Ireland's wind industry.
During the trade show nearly one hundred speakers will take part in discussions on the Main Stage or at the Research & Innovation Stage. Delegates will be able to discover new technological advances and hear the latest research findings from an array of industry priorities.
Noel Cunniffe, CEO of Wind Energy Ireland, said: "Ireland is already leader in the global renewable energy revolution, regularly getting a greater share of our electricity demand from wind power than anywhere else in the world.
"Earlier this year our first new offshore wind projects were awarded contracts and will shortly apply for planning permission. Together, onshore and offshore wind will not just cut our carbon emissions and help us to achieve energy independence, but they are the heart of an entirely new national industry.
Speaking of the government's announcement earlier in the year, Mr Cunniffe said: "Earlier this year Minister Coveney announced that his department is starting work on an industrial strategy for offshore wind. This is the time to seize the opportunity available to Ireland from having both an enormous offshore wind potential and also a thriving onshore industry with so many of the skills we need. The challenge is huge, but so is the prize; an Ireland that is energy-independent, with our own secure source of clean power, creating thousands of new jobs in one of the world’s most rapidly growing industries. This is the time for Ireland to finally live up to our potential to be a leader in the response to the global climate emergency. Together, we can build a clean energy future".
