Construction News Image
Murphy Process Engineering Ltd (MPE) has commenced work on a €3 million wastewater facility upgrade as improvement works continue in Tipperary.

The works are being completed on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

The upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant will benefit the people of Cahir and surrounding areas whilst providing better health and integrity to the environment.

When completed the project will improve the water quality in the River Suir and ensure compliance with national and EU regulations relating to the treatment of wastewater.

The project will result in the capacity of the plant increasing by 10 per cent, growing from a population equivalent of 5,000 to 5,500 and the capacity to increase by another 500 into the future.

Seamus Glynn, Programme Manager said: "We are delighted to be delivering this important project to benefit the people of Cahir. This significant investment will allow us to provide a quality service and will boost the town by enhancing the local environment and improving water quality in the receiving waters.

"Uisce Éireann has and will continue to invest in water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Premier county. The works in Cahir will benefit the county for decades to come. We would like to thank the local community for their support and co-operation as we carry out this work. We look forward to working with our colleagues in Tipperary County Council, our contractors and most importantly - the people of Cahir to deliver this vital upgrade of wastewater infrastructure."

Works commenced in August and are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
