UK Government Urged To Act On Rising Fuel Costs

The UK Government has been urged to act now to cut the rising cost of fuel.

Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has written to the Chancellor asking him to support the people instead of "helping to line the pockets of these giants who are doing very well from this crisis".

In a statement, Mr Hazzard said: "Since mid-June, fuel prices have continuously increased, and August alone saw the biggest monthly rise in fuel costs in over 23 years.


"Workers and families are already struggling with rising living costs, and now these rip-off prices are adding to the huge financial pressure they are facing.

"The British government stands idly by watching energy giants line their pockets, while ordinary people choose whether to heat their homes or feed their children.

"I have written to the British Chancellor calling on him to act now to cut the cost of fuel to help support people, rather than helping to line the pockets of these giants who are doing very well from this crisis.

"Ordinary families are paying the price for Tory inaction on cutting fuel costs, as well as one party’s reckless blockade of the Assembly. Public patience is wearing thin. People need the Assembly restored and tackling the rising cost of living now."
