The construction industry contributes to the climate crisis through the depletion of raw materials, fossil fuel usage, carbon emissions and waste.
Recognising the reality of the climate crisis and the role the built environment plays in solving the crisis, McLaughlin & Harvey said "we believe that circularity in the built environment must be accelerated" and that decisions "should be considered as a whole instead of in isolation".

The company has reviewed their Net Zero Strategy and updated its milestones. McLaughlin & Harvey has also highlighted its commitment to "going beyond current government legislation and achieving beyond net zero status as a business".
Carl Rushton, Head of Sustainability at McLaughlin & Harvey, stated: "Our refreshed Net Zero Strategy builds on our commitments of the 2019 version and reaffirms that we are both on target and fully committed to being net zero in operation by 2030. In addition to mandatory scope 3 reporting boundaries, we are extending support to our entire supply chain to help them become net zero by 2040. We are considering embodied carbon in all that we do with a cradle-to-grave approach and intend to become a carbon-negative business by 2045."
