Health And Safety Inspections To Begin Across NI Sites

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has announced that Inspectors from the Major Hazards and Transport Team (MHT) will be visiting sites to assess how workplace transport activities are being managed.

As part of the 'Drive Danger Out' campaign, the site inspections will be conducted until the end of March 2024 and will focus on three areas, the site, the vehicle and the driver.


Kellie McNamara MHT, a Principal Inspector at HSENI, said: "Working with the haulage and logistics sectors we aim to reduce the many incidents we see every year, such as plant and vehicle collisions and overturns, workers suffering crush injuries from collisions and falls, and injuries resulting from unsecured items falling from vehicles."

Employers are required by legislation to ensure the health and safety of their own employees as well as persons not in their employment as far as reasonably practicable.

Kellie McNamara added: "Employers must also provide employees with suitable information, instruction and training."

If significant risks are found Inspectors may be required to take enforcement action to comply with health and safety legislation.
