NI Water has announced a programme of essential sewer improvement works in Rostrevor, past part of an overall programme of work to improve the existing sewers in the region.

These essential repairs will involve the construction of new and the replacement of existing manholes and sewers.

The works are now underway and expected to last approximately 4 weeks.

As part of the upgrade, repairs to the existing sewers will take place on the road from No. 4 Water Street across to No. 34 Church Street. To facilitate the work in the safest possible manner, the following measures will need to be implemented on Water Street and Church Street:

• Water Street: - Water Street will be continuously closed to through traffic between Church Street and Bridge Street. Working hours will be 7.30am to 6pm. The working area will extend from No. 4 Water Street to the junction with Church Street. Access for residents and businesses will be via Church Street and Bridge Street but may be subject to delay. For safety reasons traffic will not be permitted through the working area.

• Church Street: – a continuous lane closure will be implemented on Church Street for 2 weeks at the junction with Water Street. Temporary traffic lights will be in place during this time to manage traffic flow.

• Church Street: Monday 4th September – a lane closure will be implemented on Church Street between the hours of 9:30am and 4.00pm each day. Temporary traffic lights will be in place only during this time to manage traffic flow.

NI Water and contractor AG Wilson thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during this essential work and aim to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimal disruption. This upgrade will improve the condition of the existing sewerage system, reducing the likelihood of sewer collapses, blockages and out-of-sewer flooding.
