Evermore Energy at Lisahally has teamed up with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as an official host for Engineering Open House Week 2023.
Engineering Open House Week is one of many events that make up the IET’s Engineer a Better World campaign to encourage young, aspiring engineers to discover the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) and discover more about the variety of stimulating and in-demand careers in engineering.
The IET aims to assist children aged 5-13, their caregivers, and teachers, to understand the work of an engineer or technologist by working with a wide range of organisations such as Evermore Energy. These companies in the UK open their doors and hold events, discussions, presentations, tours, interactive exhibits, and workshops to encourage young people to think differently and get excited about engineering and technology.
At Evermore Energ's Engineering Open House Day, students from Foyle College and Thornhill College saw and heard first-hand how engineering is applied in a range of different roles across the energy industry.
Ciaran Devine, Co-owner of Evermore Group said: "We were delighted to welcome students to the Lisahally CHP plant, which is one of Ireland’s largest renewable energy generators and is located at the Foyle Port. The Lisahally plant produces renewable energy for over 30,000 homes and businesses across the province and plays a key role in Northern Ireland’s sustainable energy strategy. At Evermore, we are passionate about giving back to the local community in ways such as this initiative."
