NI's Second Crematorium To Open Next Week

Construction News Image
Northern Ireland's second crematorium is set to open its doors in Newtownabbey next week on Monday 05 June.

Approximately £5 million has been invested in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Crematorium, which brings together the latest technology to provide high standards for music, visual tributes and live streaming.

Situated on the Doagh Road, the state-of-the-art facility is found in a tranquil surrounding of native trees and a wildflower meadow featuring walking paths and seating areas for reflection, whilst a pond will provide a sense of calmness and encourage biodiversity.

The Ceremony Room can accommodate 164 people with a waiting room for overflow with screens and speakers.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Mark Cooper BEM said: "The new crematorium will provide a crucial service for families across all of Northern Ireland. Arranging and attending funeral services is a very difficult and emotional time for all families and our staff who have over 100 years' experience between them will do everything to support the bereaved in their time of need.

"Due to the lack of burial space the demand for cremations has increased significantly over the past number of years and this new crematorium will provide more options for bereaved families."

Antrim and Newtownabbey Crematorium will be open Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm offering families a 45 minute service hourly from 10am-3pm.

The grounds at the crematorium are being developed further to include a memorial garden with vaults and a scattering lawn.
