People interested in purchasing a home in Kildare have been boosted with the launch of the county's first affordable housing purchase scheme.
Launched at Grey Abbey in Kildare town, this scheme gives those on moderate incomes support to buy new homes at reduced prices.
The development of 21 new homes, in partnership with Glenveagh Properties, aims to provide first-time buyers and other eligible homebuyers with the opportunity to buy a newly built home in a private development.
Construction commenced on site recently on the first affordable housing scheme in Kildare which will deliver 21 new 3-bed, A rated homes built by Glenveagh Homes. Located on the R415, with easy access to the M7, and all local amenities, the open-plan homes will be finished to the highest standard and are expected to be complete in Autumn 2023.
The online application for interested buyers will open for applications on 24 May for a period of four weeks until 24 June.
The Affordable Housing Purchase Scheme is aimed at first-time buyers, but there are some exceptions. Eligible applicants looking to buy a home in Kildare are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the application process and documentation, such as Mortgage Approval in Principle which is advised. A minimum deposit of 10% of the purchase price of the property will also be required.
Welcoming the scheme, Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive, Kildare County Council said: "Kildare County Council is delighted to reach this important milestone, in what will be the first affordable housing scheme for County Kildare, the first of several schemes, providing much needed homes, that are accessible for potential home buyers.
"Kildare County Council's aim, under the affordable housing fund is to provide vital support for home buyers."
CEO at Glenveagh, Stephen Garvey added: "We are absolutely committed to delivering high quality, sustainable homes in flourishing communities across the country, and we will continue to work in collaboration with the Government and local authorities to deliver on the aspirations of Housing for All."
