Fibrus Targets 125,000 New Premises

Construction News Image
Northern Ireland-based full fibre broadband provider, Fibrus is moving forward with its commercial roll-out plans in England.

The local firm announced the next phase of its roll-out in North East England, targeting 125,000 premises in around 40 towns and villages.

This announcement comes after Fibrus confirmed it had delivered full fibre to 250,000 premises in rural and underserved areas of Northern Ireland and Cumbria, adding that its goal is to pass 400,000 by March 2024.

In Northern Ireland, the company is well into the second half of Project Stratum – a £197m contract to deliver gigabit capable broadband to around 85,000 hard-to-reach homes and businesses in the region. The collaboration, which was part-financed by the UK Government and NI Executive, means that already over 50,000 premises have access to full fibre gigabit capable broadband.

Meanwhile, in Cumbria, Fibrus will release its first homes under the BDUK Project Gigabit contract in June.

Finally, Fibrus has also announced the appointment of Chief Strategy Officer, Luke Rowett. He will be responsible for delivering Fibrus' strategy to be the broadband provider of choice in the rural and regional areas in which it operates. Rowett will also lead on mergers and acquisitions and partnerships. He joins Fibrus with over 17 years' experience in mergers and acquisitions, growth leadership, and management, across rapidly growing sectors including TMT, Infrastructure and Utilities.
