Offaly Water Supply Upgrades Continue

A programme of water supply improvements is progressing well across County Offaly.

National utility Uisce Éireann is leading the upgrades alongside Offaly County Council, which will involve the replacement of 150m of aged water mains with new modern pipes along the section of road adjacent to the Skatepark in Drumbane, Birr.

These works will begin in mid-May, delivering a more reliable water supply for customers and reducing the amount of treated drinking water lost to leakage.


Speaking about the upgrades, Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, Joe Carroll said: "Old and damaged water mains remain a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across Ireland, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains in poor condition will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

"We would like to thank the community in Drumbane in advance for their patience and cooperation during the works, we know based on previous experiences that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the lasting benefits."

Ward & Burke Construction is delivering the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by the end of July 2023.
