Phoenix Apprentices Move Into New Roles

Phoenix Natural Gas has promoted three apprentice engineers into brand new roles.

The former apprentices will now take on the role of Emergency Engineer following their four-year Apprentice Training Programme with Phoenix Energy Services.

Harvey Joyce from Craigavon, Daniel Hughes from East Belfast, and Jack Burk from Downpatrick have each been promoted within the organisation and will now be the first to respond to emergency calls, as well as carrying out work to service and maintain Phoenix equipment.

Neil Boyce, Head of Phoenix Energy Services, said: "Phoenix Energy Services has had an active apprenticeship programme since 2002 have recruited some 100 apprentices in that time, the majority of which have remained within the gas industry, demonstrating the long-term career potential of the programme.


"Creating opportunities for local young people has always been important to us at Phoenix and our apprenticeship scheme exists to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering and the natural gas industry. For us it's about sharing our skills to help develop the gas service engineers of the future and providing them with a bright future at Northern Ireland's leading gas company.

"With the industry's focus on developing renewable gas solutions for the future, it is an exciting time for all our young engineers as they will be helping to shape a sustainable energy future for our consumers.

"We're delighted to be able to promote Harvey, Daniel and Jack within the organisation and to recognise that all their hard work, dedication and determination has paid off over the last four years. They are valued members of the Phoenix team."

Commenting on his promotion, Daniel Hughes, said: "I did really well in my GCSEs, achieving 9 Grades A-C, but I knew that further formal education just wasn't for me. When I saw the apprenticeship programme with Phoenix Energy Services, I knew it was the perfect fit for me as I would be earning while learning from the best engineers in the business as well as achieving formal qualifications.

"The apprenticeship scheme was a great way to get into the industry, learn a trade and get qualifications while still working. Having completed the apprenticeship programme, I am delighted to have qualified as a Phoenix Emergency Engineer. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for me."
