A historic building in Belfast city centre is set to be refurbished and fitted out following the award of a key contract.
Northern Ireland firm Mivan has secured a multi-million-pound contract for the Pearl Assurance House project.
Pearl Assurance House is a grade B+ listed building located adjacent to City Hall and falling within the Belfast City Centre Conservation Area. Construction was originally completed in 1902 using the red sandstone still seen today. Mivan will be responsible for the restoration of the historic façade, the creation of ground-floor retail units, open-plan offices, a roof terrace, and a rear extension, as well as internal finishes and specialist joinery.
The existing offices and retail units within the building are deficient and in desperate need of upgrading to meet modern day standards. The retail units will have new glazed fronts to provide greater light and improve accessibility. The offices from the first to fourth floors will be fully refurbished, while meeting rooms and break out areas on the fifth floor we will be created.
CEO of Mivan, John Cunningham added: "This refurbishment will facilitate the regeneration of this key listed building located on a prominent corner of Donegall Square East within Belfast city centre, seeking to restore and breathe new life back into this building for many years to come.
"I would like to have a more prominent presence in Northern Ireland's interior landscape. This project helps us to demonstrate the level that we operate at, and it is right on our doorstep. I am confident and look forward to this leading to more projects in Northern Ireland and Ireland."
