Co Down Town Set For Resurfacing

Construction News Image
A programme of resurfacing works is to get underway in the County Down of Clough this month.

Work will take place on Main Street from Sunday 19 March 2023 until Friday 07 April 2023.

The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of a 0.5 kilometre stretch of Main Street, from a point immediately south of the Blackstaff Road junction to, and including, the Main Street/Newcastle Road/Downpatrick Road roundabout.

The Department for Infrastructure is investing £320,000 in the scheme, which will improve this section of the road network for local residents, businesses and those who travel between Newcastle and Belfast/Downpatrick.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement overnight road closures from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday throughout. The road will be open to traffic from 6am to 8pm each day and over the weekends.

Ballynahinch bound traffic will be diverted via Newcastle (A2) and Castlewellan (A50) to Ballynahinch (B175). Newcastle bound traffic will be diverted to Castlewellan along the B175 onwards to Newcastle (A50).

It is expected that significant delays will be experienced as a result of these temporary traffic management measures and drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey. Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times although some minor delays may be experienced.
