Rosscarbery Water Mains Replacement Works Announced

Construction News Image
A programme of water main improvements is expected to begin in the County Cork village of Rosscarbery next month.

Uisce Éireann and Cork County Council are working together to replace just over 3.5km of aged water mains with new modern pipes.

Ward & Burke Construction Ltd will begin work in early March and is expected to reach completion by the end of July 2023.

Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, Steven Blennerhassett said: "Old and damaged water mains are a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across Ireland, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains that are in poor condition will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost to the ground.

"I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works, we know based on previous experience that the short-term inconvenience will be outweighed by the long-term benefits."

The section of works will take place between Cahermore Cross and Derry Reservoir, Rosscarbery. A stop-go system will be in place; however, local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

• L8320 - Derry, Rosscarbery from 8am Monday 13 March to 6pm Friday 24 March

• L8317 – Ardagh East, Rosscarbery from 8am Monday 20 March to 6pm Friday 05 May

• L4244 – Froe, Cahermore, Rosscarbery from 8am Monday 24 April to 6pm Friday 14 July.

The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. If the existing service connections on the public side are lead, these will be replaced as part of these improvement works.
