Preparatory Works Announced For Flynn's Wastewater Pumping Station

Construction News Image
A series of preparatory works are set to begin at Flynn's Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) in Dundrum.

NI Water is leading the works to facilitate the construction of a new pumping station later this year.

Tree cutting will take place at the Main Street site on Friday 17 February, ahead of the annual bird nesting season getting underway.

Lisa Hughes, NI Water Senior Project Manager said: "NI Water is hoping to start construction on a new Wastewater Pumping Station adjacent to the existing station in 2023. In anticipation of construction work being able to get underway this year, our contractor BSG Civil Engineering will carry out some site clearance work outside of the bird nesting season.

"To ensure that the tree cutting can be carried out as safely as possible, overhead electric cables will have to be temporarily isolated. In a bid to minimise disruption to the adjacent school, we have programmed to undertake the site clearance work during the mid-term break.

"A lane closure with traffic lights will also be in place in front of the WwPS site for safety reasons during the tree cutting work, which is expected to take 2-3 days to complete."

Lisa added: "NI Water is committed to delivering a fully upgraded sewerage network for Dundrum. Extensive work has already been completed by NI Water in the village and we look forward to constructing new pumping stations at Flynn's and Kielty's to improve coastal water quality and increase capacity to meet future development needs.

"We thank the local community and wider public for their patience and cooperation as we carry out this site preparation work and will provide further updates on any planned construction works as soon as possible."
