Upgrades Complete At Antrim Car Park

Construction News Image
The Bridge Street car park in Antrim has reopened following a programme of upgrades.

This location was the latest car park in the Antrim and Newtownabbey borough to benefit from an upgrade as part of the Council's ongoing car park improvement programme.

Approximately £170,000 was pledged to the works, which involved surface and draining improvements, as well as new lighting to make the area safer for users.

The facility includes 166 spaces, with eight bays for blue badge holders. There are also two electric vehicle charging bays.

Meanwhile, work is underway at Antrim's Central Car Park, Castle Mall, which is close to completion and due to open by the end of November.

Elsewhere in the Borough, improvement works have been completed at Portglenone Road car park in Randalstown, which also saw surface and drainage improvements. This facility has a total of 23 spaces, with one bay for blue badge holders and two EV charging bays.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Alderman Stephen Ross said: "I want to thank businesses and shoppers for their patience throughout the duration of these improvement works. Ultimately, this investment in our car parks will provide a boost for our local economy by helping to attract more shoppers into our town centres.

"Looking ahead, improvement works will also be carried out in other towns and villages, including Shore Road carpark, Whiteabbey, Railway Street, Antrim and John Street in Randalstown."
