Glengormley Environmental Upgrades Proposed

Construction News Image
Design proposals are under development for environmental improvements in Glengormley town centre.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is utilising funding from the Department for Communities to deliver the project. This will include a public realm scheme with new pavements, street furniture, lighting and increased pedestrian space throughout the commercial centre of the town.

These plans include works to parts of Antrim Road, Ballyclare Road, Hightown Road, Farmley Road, Carnmoney Road, Church Road, Farrier Court, Glenwell Road, Church Way and Tramways Centre.

Members of the public are being urged to share their feedback on the proposed improvements.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Alderman Stephen Ross said: "This improvement scheme is part of a larger £14m investment, utilising a range of funding streams, designed to regenerate the centre of Glengormley.

"This programme of works will create numerous jobs and aims to transform Glengormley into a more vibrant town centre, providing a more attractive place to work, visit, socialise and live. I urge residents, business owners and community groups to take part in this consultation process and share their comments."

A public consultation event will take place on Wednesday 26 October between 12 noon and 7pm in the Lilian Bland Pavilion, Glengormley. This will provide an opportunity for people to ask the Council and its design team, RPS, any questions they may have about the scheme. A presentation on the proposals will also take place at 5.30pm.

Meanwhile, an online/telephone consultation event will also be held on Thursday 27 October between 12 noon and 7pm.

All feedback should be received no later than Friday 11 November.
