The County Cork village of Clondrohid has been significantly improved with investment from the government.
With support under Cork County Council's Village Enhancement Fund, €50,750 improvement works were completed as part of the Macroom Municipal District 2021 Programme, with a further €18,000 dedicated towards speed safety measures in villages across the district.
Enhancement works completed in Clondrohid include a new resurfaced set down area for the local school and creche, pollinator-friendly planting, new seating at the GAA grounds, seating at Curragh Road, a popular local route for walkers, and equipment for the local Age Friendly group.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Danny Collins said: "The Village Enhancement Scheme has a hugely positive impact in rural areas, by improving the infrastructure, the appearance and the facilities of our villages. It is a wonderful example of Cork County Council collaborating with hard working community groups to enhance and improve our rural areas and the quality of life for everyone."
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey commented: "Each year Cork County Council allocates funding to each Municipal District under the Village Enhancement Scheme for an improvement project in a specific village, as selected by the Members of the Municipal District. Cork County Council's Village Enhancement Scheme supports community led improvements to the public realm and infrastructure of our villages with the overall aim of strengthening the fabric of rural County Cork."
Cathaoirleach of Macroom MD, Cllr Eileen Lynch added: "The people of Clondrohid are very proud of their village and thankful to Cork County Council for these funds which have greatly enhanced this widely used area of the village and is in essence the hub of the village for all activities. I would like to thank the local community for working with us to identify their priorities for this funding, ensuring that it will bring maximum benefit for the village. We are very proud of the results."
