Mid & East Antrim Borough Council Demonstrates Environmental Commitment

Mid And East Antrim Borough Council is set to shine a spotlight on its commitment to environmental performance with the launch of a new campaign.

The new campaign #MEAction has begun rolling out from July, and promotes the Council's environmental objectives which take action on climate, sustainability, biodiversity, recycling, plastic, water, transport, energy, health and more.

The Council is accredited to the ISO4001:2015, the international standard for environmental management and holds the highest accolade in the NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey Awards 2021. It has also aligned its goals to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and aims to improve how environmental work is reported, making it easier for people to see the progress it is making in this area.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Noel Williams, said: "The #MEAction campaign will really make it evident that Council takes our environmental responsibilities seriously. There is so much award-winning work already being delivered by Council. This campaign treatment will pull it together under one identity that cuts across all the departments and projects. We hope it will also motivate residents, ratepayers and businesses to take a look at what they are doing. There are always ways to get involved or to make better environmental decisions, whether in the home or in the workplace."

Elaine Smith, the Council's Climate and Sustainability Manager, added: "Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has made so much progress in becoming a more environmentally friendly Borough. This makes sense not only for the planet, but for the pocket too. So much of what we are doing is about saving energy and saving resources, meaning we can spend less on energy and fuel bills."
