Warrenpoint Municipal Park has been transformed under a new restoration project.
An event was held earlier this month to mark the completion of the National Lottery Heritage Fund project.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage greeted Dr Sally Montgomery from The National Lottery Heritage Fund Northern Ireland Committee and they visited display gardens by Puzzles Pre School, Carrick Primary School, Dromore Road Primary School, Kilbroney Integrated Primary School, St. Mark's Secondary School and Warrenpoint Community Garden designed by the Cabbage Patchers.
Councillor Michael Savage said: "I am delighted to see the Park buzzing with activity today. Warrenpoint Municipal Park is a beautiful urban Park and today's event is fitting to celebrate the National Lottery Heritage Fund project. The project has supported a range of schools and groups throughout the community promoting the heritage of the Park and delivering activities following the restoration of the Park in 2018."
Dr Sally Montgomery, NI Committee Member at The National Lottery Heritage Fund added: "It is wonderful that so many people are enjoying the restored Municipal Park at Warrenpoint. It is another great example of the public benefits of funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund which is made possible thanks to National Lottery players who each week raise £30million for good causes across the UK."
Award-winning chef, Paul Cunningham from Mourne Larder provided cooking demonstrations and sample tasting throughout the day. Welig Heritage Crafts demonstrated willow making, Warrenpoint Men's Shed displayed a replica of the Windmill in Warrenpoint that was built in 1802. Warrenpoint Art Group exhibited their work and Council provided free sustainable food packages to encourage people to grow their own. The Artisan Market was bolstered by Cherry Cottage Garden Show, Knox' of Kilkeel and Kellys Home and Garden Centre exhibiting a range of their stock. Arts and Crafts were provided by Liz Farnan Environmental Educator and families were entertained with heritage games and crazy golf.
The Bandstand was adorned with a floral display to complement the theme of the event, local musical favourites, Cloughmore Male Voice Choir and Warrenpoint Silver Band along with Ryan Creedy and Jarad Green entertained the crowds and The Eden Project Communities hosted a very special guest 'The Gruffalo'.
