A deal has been agreed for the management of recycling centres across county Donegal.
Social enterprise Bryson Recycling has secured a three-year contract to continue managing the six Recycling Centres in the county.
A number of improvements have been introduced across the sites as part of this new contract, which commenced on 01 February 2022. The changes include new extended opening hours, with the Dungloe site being open on Tuesdays all year round and longer opening hours at the Milford, Letterkenny, Stranorlar and Laghey sites. As a result, Bryson have created new local employment opportunities, and recruited five additional members of staff to work at the sites. A wider range of materials will also be recycled, with soft plastics and paint being accepted at all sites.
Bryson first won a contract with Donegal County Council in 2012 to manage their Recycling Centres. As a social enterprise, they are keen to look an innovative ways to engage and work with local communities in Donegal.
Connie Gallagher, General Manager at Bryson Recycling, said: "We are delighted to win this contract and look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Donegal County Council to provide our local circular economy approach to recycling across all six sites with the aim of increasing recycling and reuse whilst proving an excellent service to local residents."
Suzanne Bogan, Waste Awareness Officer with Donegal County Council, added: "We have seen the numbers of customers visiting our Recycling Centres increase three-fold in the last 10 years as we have continually increased the number of waste stream accepted at the sites. The further expansion of services at these sites under this new contract is good news for the citizens of Donegal and for the environment."
