Iconic Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff is set to host two virtual insight days in partnership with Speakers for Schools.
The first event, Green Skills Insight Day, will take place on 26 April between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Titled 'Green Skills in the Maritime and Offshore Engineering Industry', the session is open to all young people in state schools aged between 16-19 years old.
Running in line with Green Skills Week, the session will provide students with an introduction to the company, its contribution to green skills as well as the many job opportunities on offer. It will also provide students with a chance to hear from the experienced team and take part in a live green skills Q&A.
Green Skills Week is a Speakers for Schools initiative that offers young people insight days, work experience and inspirational talks to introduce roles in the growing green economy.
An Apprenticeship Insight Day will be held on 27 April from 9.30am to 12.30pm, welcoming young people in state schools aged between 16-19 years old living in and around the four Harland & Wolff sites – Appledore (North Devon), Methil (Fife, Scotland), Stornoway (Isle of Lewis, Scotland) and Belfast (Northern Ireland).
The day will provide students with an introduction to the company, its history, and the apprenticeship scheme, as well as giving students the chance to hear from current apprentices and an experienced team. The session will also offer students an opportunity to refine their own CV, cover letter and interviewing skills.
Applications to participate in both insight days must be made via the online Speakers for Schools portal here.
