Construction News Image
A rollout of specialised retrofit works is set to begin in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area.

DLR County Council is partnering with SSE Airtricity to upgrade 53 to a deep retrofit standard.

This project has ensured residents of Ballyogan and Stillorgan initially and other areas across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown will have the highest standards of energy efficiency in their homes as well as benefitting from improved living standards. This is a collaborative effort between SSE Airtricity and the Council to implement energy efficiency projects.

These works were carried out as part of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage's Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme which aims to retrofit local authority housing stock to a B2/Cost Optimal BER.

The homes involved have been upgraded from the lowest possible BER rating of G and F to all units gaining a B2 – A2 BER standard. The upgrade measures included new windows and doors, solar panels & power divert, external insulation, LED lights, attic insulation and heating control upgrades. The project is making significant contribution to a low carbon transition, saving 600MWH per year; equivalent to the annual total electricity consumption of 143 houses, and providing 143.1kw of roof top 100% renewable energy throughout the local area. The retrofit works have translated into significant savings for Council tenants and a vastly improved living experience in their home.
