Construction News Image
A deal has been reached for a series of upgrades at Killybegs Water Treatment Plant.

Irish Water has signed a construction contract for the works, which will see the utility invest €13 million to support economic, social development and tourism in the area while reducing the risk of supply interruptions and ensuring compliance with EU Drinking Water Regulations.

EPS will deliver the work on behalf of Irish Water, with work commencing in the coming months and expected to take 24 months to complete.

Speaking about the project, John McElwaine, Asset Delivery Regional Lead with Irish Water, said: "We are looking forward to delivering this important project on behalf of the local community in Killybegs. Ensuring security of supply in the area is hugely important for Killybegs, renowned for its fishing industry and busy tourism sector. This significant investment will also ensure that the plant can meet the current water demand in the Killybegs area and provide capacity to meet future development needs.

"This project will involve an upgrade to the water treatment plant at the existing Killybegs site, as well as provision of sludge treatment facilities. It will also ensure compliance with EU Drinking Water Regulations resulting in improvements to the local environment and surface water.

"We look forward to working with the local community in Killybegs to deliver this essential project in conjunction with our partners Donegal County Council and EPS."
