New MUGA Opens In Fermanagh Village

Construction News Image
A ceremony has been held to mark the official opening of a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in the County Fermanagh village of Clabby.

The new facility, which is designed mainly for young people to enjoy outdoor sporting activities, was brought to life as part of the PEACE IV Youth Focused Shared Spaces Programme.

The programme, which had a budget of £500,000 has been significant not only in bringing young people together from different community backgrounds but also building positive sustainable relationships within, and between, communities.

Speaking at the official opening, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said: "Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is delighted to support this PEACE IV funded project. The investment has enabled the Clabby community to not only enhance their superb facilities for the benefit of their members but also to attract new users, thereby creating a more cohesive society through an increase in provision of shared spaces and services. The Council has long championed the benefits of working in partnership with key stakeholders and welcomes the development of shared spaces that enable initiatives that enhance the lives of our young people. It is great to witness first-hand how PEACE IV funding has made a positive and lasting impact on our communities."

Speaking of behalf of Clabby Community, Ms Daphne Armstrong added: "We are delighted with the investment received as a consequence of PEACE IV funding and welcomed the opportunity to work in partnership with the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's PEACE IV Partnership to enhance our community through the development of a MUGA.

"Our new community facility will have a positive impact on the young people here in Clabby and the surrounding area. The support to date for this project from the local community, particularly, Fivemiletown Development Association and local sporting clubs have been immense and we look forward to building on and continuing our relationships formed to improve the lives of our young people."
