Construction News Image
A £500,000 upgrade scheme to improve car parks in town centres and villages across Antrim is moving forward.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council reached completion on the first phase of the project, with the next phase expected to begin in early 2022.

Phase One of Antrim Central carpark has been completed as well as the main Antrim Forum carpark. Final improvements to the Antrim Forum entrance will be completed this month. The Square Car Park in Ballyclare has also had improvement works carried out to improve drainage and has been relined.

The next phase of work will include improvements at Harrier Way in Ballyclare, Portglenone Road in Randalstown and Bridge Street carpark in Antrim.

Further down the line, improvements will be delivered at the Shore Road carpark, Whiteabbey, Railway Street, Antrim and John Street in Randalstown.

Commenting on the scheme, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb said: "This is a great step forward in improving facilities for our residents and visitors and encouraging them to shop in our town centres and villages. I am delighted that works in Antrim Central were completed in time to host over 100,000 visitors to our magical Enchanted Winter Gardens and I would like to thank our Antrim Forum customers for their patience as we upgraded the facility."
