Castletymon Enhancement Project Enters Consultation

Construction News Image
Members of the public have been encouraged to have their say on the Castletymon Enhancement Project in Co Dublin.

This key scheme proposes the upgrading and modernisation of Castletymon Shopping Centre and the surrounding area. It will involve improvements such as wider footways and the creation of a plaza space within and around the shopping centre. The proposed scheme will also provide cycleways and landscaping along the roadway from the new Castletymon Library / Bancroft Park and Tymon Park / National Basketball Arena.

South Dublin County Council, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority, is actively trying to develop an improved cycle network throughout the County. This new network is intended to provide more sustainable transport options for commuters as well as active travel benefits for local communities.

A virtual consultation room for the Castletymon Enhancement Project has been launched and will remain open until Tuesday 04 January 2022. It can be found here.

Speaking on the launch of the consultation, Mick Mulhern, Director of Land Use, Planning and Transportation in South Dublin County Council, said: "Our County villages and centres are really important places for our local communities and the different businesses there. We have over 60 centres across South Dublin, some of which are fantastic and successful places, but others that need more attention to improve them in a way that encourages people to spend more time in them and to use them as public meeting spaces, which will in turn help to support local businesses. To this end, the Council agreed a programme of district centre improvement projects in Sept 2020. This proposal at Castletymon is the first project to progress to the planning stage and we have now launched a virtual consultation room, which can be accessed at home at any point up to the 4th of January 2022. We want to hear your thoughts on the scheme and any suggestions you may have to improve on it."
