Water Mains Upgrades To Begin In Cork

Construction News Image
A programme of water mains upgrades is moving forward across County Cork, with Kilnagurteen the latest to benefit from the scheme.

Irish Water is working alongside Cork County Council to replace over 615m of problematic water mains with new modern pipes in Kilnagurteen, Macroom. These works will improve water quality and provide a more reliable water supply.

Work will begin in early November under Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The project will also involve laying new water service connections from the public watermain in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work.

The section of works will take place along Millstreet Road, opposite the entrance to the Glenties Housing Estate, and will run northbound for approximately 615m.

Steven Blennerhassett from Irish Water, commented: "To facilitate the safe delivery of the upgrades, there will be some traffic management in place along the Millstreet Road, however local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. The works may also involve some short-term water outages, but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water outages.

"We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause."

Ward and Burke Limited will deliver the works on behalf of Irish Water, with completion expected by mid-December.
