Dun Laoghaire Sewer Network Scheme Progresses Well

Construction News Image
Work on the new sewer network along the Goatstown Road in Dun Laoghaire is progressing well ahead of its expected completion later this year.

Irish Water is working alongside Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to deliver the project, which will support existing and future residential and commercial development and will help to safeguard the environment by reducing the risk of wastewater overflows.

The project is being delivered by GMC Utilities limited on behalf of Irish Water.

Irish Water completed the construction of a new sewer from Larchfield Road to Our Lady's Grove Primary School in May. The current works started in June and the construction of the new sewer from the Goatstown Road cross roads to Larchfield road is progressing well. The new sewer is expected to be complete in the Autumn.

Commenting on the project, Padraig Hanly, Irish Water said: "A sewer network that is fit for purpose is essential in order to support business and social development in the community. These works will support existing and future residential and commercial development while also improving the overall performance of the sewer network, helping to safeguard the environment."

To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, a traffic management plan is in place. The cycle lane on the Goatstown Road in the area of the works is closed for the duration of the project. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times. This week, the Goatstown pub road junction traffic lights have been switched. The traffic is being controlled by stop go traffic marshalls from 9am – 6pm during the day. At night the traffic is being controlled by temporary traffic lights between 6pm and 9am and supervised by traffic marshalls. The junction traffic lights will be switched on again on Friday 24 September at 6pm.
