The crossings at Skeoge Road and Maydown Road have been switched on, with Infrastructure Minister also announcing the introduction of a reduced speed limit to 40 mph on the Maydown Road.
Minister Mallon said: "These crossings and reduced speed limit will improve road safety for pedestrians, and in particular vulnerable road users such as, children, the elderly and those with a disability. The location is a popular crossing point, on this busy road, for people accessing local shops and services so I am confident it will be welcome news for the local community and visitors alike.

"The Maydown Toucan crossing, which will help school children safely cross 4 lanes to a bus pick up, will form part of a planned new cycle route currently being developed at Strathfoyle and will help encourage more walking and cycling in the area."
The signal controlled crossings are both Toucan type crossings for use by pedestrians and cyclists.
